The Overcoming.

So, just like all of humanity; Depression at some point in time, weed's their way into people's lives. Some of us can't help to embrace it. I am one of those people who embraces it. As Cliche as it sounds "You can't have happiness without sadness and vice versa." I sometimes need that balance. I remember reading Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" and crying at the end of the book. Feeling for the characters. Both the Monster and Victor. I probably looked ridiculous moping. I find it all cathartic though. It's needed. Sheer happiness sometimes calls for a little darkness. The past few years I have had ups and downs with depression. Last year after doing "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory." I fell into the deepest one; after having attachment with the show, and my Mrs. Gloop character. I was doing one of my best performances,Comedically, in that show. And it coming to end, knowing that "This is it" and the nature of a show where all the cast and crew members part ways and do other things. I felt like a family with everyone. But I knew that this show will just be a memory in our minds.

I also got involved with someone who was a little crazy...who made it worse upon worse. . .

But it ended 9 months later. When I couldn't be selfish anymore.I found out  my grandfather had terminal brain cancer. Then shortly after, my great grandma on my dad's side has a stroke. Then to make it tragic. My best friend, Alex. Goes into the hospital and we are all notified that he has 3 days to live. I had to be strong, and focusing on my depression was the least of my worries. I was going back and forth from hospital to hospital. I found myself to take lodging in them. But it's the families and friends who were the selfless ones. Like Traci, for Alex. And my Nana and Mother for my Grandfather, Poppa. And my Grandma Tina for my Great Grandma Violet on my Dad's side. Those who I spoke of stayed by their sides. They were the strongest of all.

Taken in 2009. This is my Velvet Underground look.

On a lighter subject. I have been updating the Bunk Show's website. Getting it ready when Alex and I have something to present. I have been so excited for the show since we first talked about it back in 2009. It's an honour to work with Alex. And create funny sketches with him. I remember when I first met him in 2000. I was this 14 year kid who just signed up for his Dad's Summerstock program. And Alex would shoot music videos for the productions and have funny scenes he would shoot with the other actors. I remember Alex had me in a scene where this girl got a long sheet of paper towel in her backshirt walked away pulling the rest with her. And a girl and myself when after the roll. Then the classic scene I was in...when I was in Grease. Alex got a shot of my doing the hand jive. Then the greasers trash can me, and do wrestling moves on me while I am stuck in the trash can....Then the Pink Ladies....Then the Nerds wrap it up. lol. Below is that video.

A video Alex made for his Dad's retirement.

I also have been majorly into Monty Python these past few days. So here:

And Clownremover, thank you for the nice things you said in your recent Blog. :)

Cheers,

An Eventful Weekend.

The month of July has been one heck of a month; As it comes to a wrap. I remember this time last year. I had just broken it off with this woman. Our relationship was hell all around. So I had a break from it experiencing the town of South Park, San Diego for the first time since 2007. Had been a real treat. I remember my friend Kayla and went to Chris Vannoy's 20th Poet's Tree and I saw Alex and Traci's house in South Park and was blown away by the artistry in the town along with the historical aspects of the buildings. I was in a new world I felt. Then I had a great time at the Poet's Tree, and then I worked with Alex at Traci's brother in law, Billy's Picnic he was organizing, and of coarse Comic Con last year. Where I sold water to the thirsty masses, went to The Haunted Hotel for a little thrill and walked in the Zombie March of the city... This year kept that same feeling of amazement and learning experiences. I met new people this year, like a good friend Christina who I met in person. And was awesome to treat Alex Bosworth and I to South Park's Station Tavern Burger's. Then we went to Rebecca's soon after to read. Also, Vannoy's 21st Annual Poet's Tree was full of talented writers. I love going to Vannoy's and looking at all the amazing art he as created. Such a talented guy. Also, I got to see another good friend I hadn't seen a very long time. Her and I talked about got to enjoy each others company and walk through the Haunted Hotel for a little thrill. I was of coarse a jerk and trying to hide in the hiding spots.

I am featured on the left. Comic Con 2008. At The Haunted Hotel.

It was good seeing the Hotel and Haunted Trail crew again. I haven't seen them since last year. The Hotel was very fun. They did a great job. Aside, from coming from the Haunted Trail and all the old rivalry. I have always been a supporters of the company as whole. And have enjoyed Haunted Hotel, Frightmare on Market Street, The Haunted Trail, and Scream Zone. We are all on the same team is how I have seen it. The past couple of years there has been a bond of both houses, The Hotel and The Trail. Which is really cool. I have to applaud Josh for getting everybody together at Denny's or Rudford's and getting to know each other. But to sum this paragraph up. Great job Hotel and Trail for doing a great job this Comic Con.

The Poet's Corner @ The Egyptian Tea Room

I am very excited to being doing a poetry/prose reading at my place of employment. I think the more exposure of writers and readers in San Diego the better and greater people will influenced to come up and write something. This first Poet's Corner will be on my good friend Alex Boworth's Birthday. So I dedicate this reading to him.

This photo was taken the day before the Sun god Festival at UCSD. May 2011.

Another event I was at this weekend was The Sugarland load out on Saturday night. I showed up about 9pm just as Sugarland went up to perform. I must say I am not a country fan. But Sugarland are very talented and I was actually liking their music. Plus, I met them coming off the stage and thanked them. They were very nice and showed their appreciation with a smile and warm thank you. Very nice people. Anywho, the load out was directly with Sugarland. So I got to talk to the truck drivers and had nothing but good things to say about the band. When I worked for the same company, ShowCall Productions. For Gary. I worked up in Fantasy Springs with Cody and I worked the Reba Mcentire concert, and I heard she is such the sweetest person alive. Maybe country stars are genuinely nice and pop stars are douche bags.

Collapse, where local musicians, poet's, artists come together from 7pm to close of the bar at The Office in North Park. I first heard about this event from Alex. I had went down there the first time he read, and he kicked ass with "Radio Hindenburg" and "F.K.U." Then as we were heading out I ran into some friends i know from the tea room and local goth industrial shows. I found it to be a really small world. So i contacted the event creator, MoJo. And ask to read some of my short pieces. Plus, I found out my friend Samantha was going to be dancing. So yesterday I showed up to read. Met Vannoy and Emmons there. And then Traci and Alex showed up. Alex did a kick ass reading. Then later I met Sam and her mom, Sharyn. I was bummed I didn't get to see Chris read. I heard he started to read one of his pieces and the rowdy bar patrons would get quiet. So he started reciting his poems walking around in the crowd getting close to people. And the bar went silent. Man, I wish I would of seen that. I got to see Emmon read his version of Ginsberg's Howl, and I went up between an act. And I read my piece "Nonsensical Poetry" which got the audiences attention. But I felt "Cafe Wampeer" was little hard to read at this venue. So I be writing new poems that will work for this crowd. But I got a good revue afterwords from a couple of people liking my work. Which is really sweet. I stayed til closing of the event, and saw some very talent people. And I got to be with good company for the start to the end.

The Omegas.

The Omegas: Bingomen. The 1st Episode of Season 1.

My buddy, Raul Urreola created and directed The Omega series. His description Michael Mann's "Heat" meets "The X-Men." As an actor who got the pleasure of being in it. I am also excited and giddy to see what happens to the progression of the characters and where they take the story. Every Wednesday Raul will post each episode on Facebook and his website.

Yesterday I download 7 B-52 songs. I am a big fan of their first two albums. As my friend Kevin Bush says I love every bands first two albums. You know he has a point. The first two B-52 albums were phenomenal. Plus, I think the late '70's were a good time in music. Bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Devo's first two popular albums came out, The Birthday Party, The Police to name a few. It's rumored that John Lennon really liked The B-52's first album. It make sense. It's a bit crazy and surreal. Which Lennon was into.  I was never a big fan of Love Shack. But for the most part I pretty much like all of the other B-52 work after "The B-52's" and "Wild Planet." Below is song I really like from them:

I find the guitar work in this song is somewhat Punk influenced.

Ricky Wilson was a fantastic guitar player. I love his riffs.

I just updated my acting website and The Bunk Show website. Adding features and links to it. It needed to be updated.

I just hiked Colwes Mountain with my friend and Boss, Harry; Last night. The view was absolutely amazing. I had wish I had taken photo of it. I know my phone couldn't have got this splendid image. Viewing out towards Qualcomm Stadium there was spilling glow from the lights of some event with a heavy marine layer  above. But right in the middle was these three black clouds between the two. It was amazing. I am hoping to hike Colwes every week.

Well, That's all for now. Cheers.

Odd Blog #2

I recently had a epiphany where I wanted to be more than just an actor. My friend Alex Bosworth kept encouraging me to write and read a piece at Dimestories. Well, I finally actually wrote piece. I called it Cafe Demise. And it was about me going crazy at a cafe that wasn't doing to well. Then I came up with the idea of comparing working at cafe to Bram Stoker's Dracula. I was going to call it "Cafe Dracula." Then Alex said I should change it too "Cafe Wanpeer" meaning "Vampire" in German. So here it is:

Dear Mina, I am writing to you out of haste to tell you of my experiences here at my current employment, Cafe Wampeer.
I have noticed some peculiar things through out the months having worked here. First of all, the locals had warned me not to apply for the job, because of the owner and the strange things that happen here. I found the owner to be a very peculiar man. He had this easy glare. During the whole interview process he kept staring at my neck without ever blinking, which I found haunting. The man never blinked an eye lid. Then after being hired at the cafe I found my coworkers to also have a strange feeling about that them. The owner had a total of three girls, beautiful voluptuous women working for him, and fairly strange fellow by the name of Reinfield. Everybody he called him Rein. But I noticed his devout alliance to the owner. The three women that worked here at the cafe had some sort of great customer service abilities. Because I remember being a customer before taking employment here.
They had this seductive quality to them where I ended up buying to two Chai Lattes, Four brownies, one Cappincino and two Fruity Tooty Biscotti Bars. Secondly, I experienced the strangest and unholy of occurrences. I noticed the Owner serving two customers a coffee by climbing down the wall out into the absence of a cafe. It's times like this, Mina, when I wish I can hold my stuffed Teddy for reassurance. Then I had showed up the next night to work, still horrified from the night before unshaven.
The owner had asked me to shave in the bathroom. Afterword, I had cut myself and He stared at me in such a strange manner. Third, I found my coworker doing the strangest and inhumanly act imaginable. Rein, had placed some spiders in his cappicino while sitting on his break. One time I had caught him trying to shove a Sparrow in his Machito.
Weird, anywho. I proceeded to cook for some of the local customers when I felt a fever come upon me. I don't know if it was the heat in the kitchen or the endless hours of being in this entrapment. But I felt this unenglish desire to place some bugs that crawled on the floor and place them in my Soy Latte i had been steaming up. Strangely, it gave it the kick it needed.
And now, Mina, before I come into a fleeting state of madness, I ask for you to send me a Coaster Ticket ASAP.
Truly your man,
Johnathan.

Tonight I am going hiking with my boss up Colwes Mountain. Another aspect of that epiphany I had is that I am getting into Fitness. I weigh 280lbs since I last checked. I had a certified nurse come to my house when I got my Life Insurance. She weighed me and that's what I come out to. But there is a good chunk of muscle. So it's not all flab. Anywho, I am wanting to get into better shape. So I have been going to 24 Hour Fitness almost every other day if not everyday and My boss and friend Harry has got me into hiking. So I went out and bought some hiking boots and bought suntan lotion. But today I went to Antonelli's Deli in Santee, and oh boy! I am pretty stuffed. I ordered a 12'' Turkey sandwich. But it's nothing like Subway's. Antonelli's are massive. Gigantic. Titanic of a sandwich. As big as Asia....Ok I will shut up. ;).
Oh, well. I will make it up Colwes. I got a couple hours to digest.

I do believe this is the 8'' So the 12'' much bigger.

Comic Con 2011

Preview night started today. I remember working for a friend at The University of San Diego, and she also worked for Comic Con. And we took the bus down to a hotel across the Convention center to get our badges. Because we were Security within the event. Not Elite. And every time I think of the preview night I think of this time in 2007. Alas, feels like ages ago. Since then, In 2008. I had a friend give me a free pass. Which was cool. I dressed up as the Joker...of coarse! The Dark Knight had just came out that summer, and 2009 I help The Haunted Hotel pass out flyers to get people to come through the Hotel. 2010 I passed out water with my friend and made some profit. And this year? Not sure. Friday I will be coming through the Hotel. But I pretty much booked all this weekend. I am working for Show Call Productions doing a loadout up at The Rimac Soccer field up at UCSD. Then Work the next morning. Then a nap. Then I am reading with Alex Bosworth at The Office for The Collapses Event. So I got a pretty busy week and weekend. I would at some point like to dress up in a costume of some sorts and run amock in the city. Last year this saturday Alex and I worked for his Wife's brother in laws Catering company. Where Alex and I were these two characters at this Picnic. Marshall Law and Festus. Festus was part inbred mixed with Harpo Marx and Chaplin. Last year was a really fun year despite some personal drama.

Me during the 2008 Comic Con.

Alex Bosworth as Marshal Law and Me as Festus
At The "Tex Mex" Picnic July 2010.

I think if we ever do this again. We should have Traci (Alex's Wife) play the School Marm. I would have Alex and I play the silly getting into trouble characters. And Traci would be the one who teaches the kids about education. She would be like the mother character and the kids would respect her. Even if we ever took this idea and made it a somewhat kids show. That would be fun. Although, public access can be a pain in the butt. I have always wanted to do a kids show that was mixed with Sesame Street and The Muppets meets The Marx Brothers. But I would also do a adult show as well.

The Marx Brothers. My Idols.

Me wearing a Groucho Marx nose piece Late October 2010.

Well, until next time. Cheers.

Odd Blog #1

For my first blog I will leave you with a story.

Odd Jobs

Ever since the economy hasn't been doing so well; hours have been very limited at work. So I decided to or take on some odds jobs to add supplement to my income. And oh, Boy! I have have worked some pretty weird jobs. The first job I took was filling the role of a caretaker for an elderly lady. Her name was Blanche. I didn't last very long at this job. Blanche was a sweet lady. . She would always offer me cookies and milk. She told me that she always depended on the kindess of strangers. At 7:30 we would watch Jeoprady together. One night Blanche had asked me to go grab some canned goods from the cellar. When all of a sudden she locked the door behind her and slid down the stair rail with some sort of suede bondage whip. She cornered me and almost beat me to death with it and demanded I called her Daddy. So I put in my two weeks notice. Then my next job I worked as Lab Tech in this guy's garage. But that job ended very quick, once the cops showed up. Soon after, I starting working for this cafe that only opened at night time. Until I found out the Boss was a Vampire. To proctect myself I went to the nearest Von's and bought at jar of miced garlic. My boss was digusted and asked me to never set foot on his property ever again. Then my last job I worked with these two guys from the South. They called themselves The King and The Duke. I had in fact the right to believe that they weren't of any royal blood. They had me pretend that I was some servent boy named Adolphus. And that we just got off the boat from England to see their brother on his death bed. We also had this other guy on the job named, Jim. He was to act like he was swahilin. Man, everybody seemed pretty racist because they kept dropping the "N" word everytime they refereed to him. Anyways, I digress. We were suppose to con these three beautiful young girls and collect their inhertance money. Well that didn't fly with me. So I hid the King and the Dukes prospected money in a coffin and left. I think they got turned into the authorties soon after. But things look hopeful now because I just applied to be a fisherman on this boat called the Pequod; with some Captain Ahab looking for a giant whale or so. Something about loosing a leg to it or something. Well. Wish me luck.
